Blog Post for the Week of December 9

I really enjoyed our class this week. After all those weeks of reading, writing, and hard work, it felt very relaxing to have a few class periods dedicated to music and dancing. To be quite honest, I never realized we would be learning to dance in this class, but I'm glad we did. I think I may need a few more sessions, though, if I were to actually feel confident with these dances, as my feet seem to have minds of their own. One thing that the music we listened to made me realize, though, is how hard it is to understand a song in a different language. I love listening to Spanish conversations, because it's fun to try to pick out different words that I recognize and try to piece together a meaning. But trying to do the same with music is so much harder. I'm not sure if its the distraction of the instruments or something, but whenever I try to understand the lyrics of a Spanish song, I just get lost. In all, however, this week was a wonderful reprieve, and I'm really glad we got to end the semester on such a fun note.

  1. I agree with you, Joe! This week was a very fun way to end the semester, when my other classes are fairly stressful. It is definitely harder to understand Spanish words when they are put to song - I just gave up trying to understand them and focused instead on keeping my balance. When the professors translated those couple of songs for us, though, seeing the underlying message in the lyrics was extremely interesting.

  2. Hey there, Joe! I agree that it was really nice to be able to have fun and get to know our classmates a little better this past week. I think with a little more practice we would feel a lot more comfortable dancing. I think it would be fun if we all decided to go to the social dance Latin night as a class to be able to work on our skills. I hope you have a great break!

  3. Hey Joe! I agree also, this was a very fun way to destress after the semester of hard work and it was a great way to socialize and have fun with our classmates. This was a great end to end the semester!
