Introductory Post
Hello all! My name is Joe Greendyk, and I am a Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences major. I currently work a second shift sanitation job at a local food processing plant in Ada, Michigan. I'm taking this sequence because it was recommended to me by a sibling, and I find the history and culture of Latin America fascinating. I do not speak a foreign language, although my entire family is fluent in Spanish, making me the odd one out. I have traveled fairly regularly to Latin America, having made trips to Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Bolivia, Ecuador, and Peru. I'm expecting this class to be a substantial amount of work, however I believe it will be very interesting. My only pet peeve in class is others making loud distractions that keep me from working, but other than that I'm pretty chill with whatever goes on...except presentations, because they make me nervous :) . An interesting fact about myself is that I missed out on living in Bolivia by less than a year. My parents lived there for about ten years, and all of my siblings were born there. They moved to Michigan only ten months before I was born, so I almost was born in Bolivia, but not quite. The picture is from one of my many kayak fishing trips on the Grand River, some being more fruitful than others.

Thank you, Joe, for the post. I had your sister in class several times and we also worked together in organizing the Grand Rapids Latin American Film Festival a couple of years ago. Please say hello from me. Bolivia is one of the countries I haven't been to but would like to visit some day. I look forward to having you in class and getting to know you.
ReplyDeleteHi Joe! Your travel record is really impressive and I wish I could go to half as many places outside of the country as you have. I have always wanted to travel abroad and hopefully I will get to one of these years. That's so sad that you just missed out on being born and living in Bolivia for a little while. Hopefully you will get to go there someday. I hope to get to know you better as the class goes on.
